1958/2024

We sadly announce the passing of Maria Stevenson.

A cherished wife, mother, and friend, who left us on 2nd June 2024. Born in 1958, Maria’s life was marked by her love for sports, her unwavering dedication to her family, and her warm, joyful spirit.

Maria was born and raised in Surrey, where she discovered her passion for tennis and golf at a young age.

She spent her childhood and teenage years on the courts and courses, honing her skills and developing a lifelong love for these sports. Her competitive spirit and love for the game were evident to all who knew her.

In her early twenties, Maria met Trevor, the love of her life. They married in 1989 and enjoyed a beautiful partnership that lasted 35 years. Their relationship was built on mutual respect, love, and shared interests, particularly their enthusiasm for sports. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter, raising two wonderful children, Emma and James.

Maria was a devoted mother who always put her family first. She took great pride in supporting her children’s endeavors, whether academic, athletic, or personal. Her encouragement and guidance helped shape Emma and James into the successful individuals they are today. Maria’s love and dedication to her family were unwavering, and she found immense joy in watching her children grow and achieve their dreams.

Her passion for tennis and golf never faded. Maria was a regular fixture at her local tennis club and golf course, where she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed the camaraderie and competition, and her presence was a source of inspiration to many. Her skills on the court and course were impressive, but it was her sportsmanship and kindness that truly set her apart.

Maria also loved travelling with her family, often combining her love for sports with her love for exploration. Some of their most cherished memories were made on family holidays, whether playing golf in Scotland or exploring new tennis courts in Spain.

An interesting fact about Maria was her role as an unofficial coach and mentor to many young athletes in her community. She often volunteered her time to help budding tennis and golf players, offering them tips, encouragement, and the wisdom she had gained over the years. Her generosity in sharing her knowledge and passion for the sports she loved had a lasting impact on many young lives.

Maria’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and dedication. She touched the lives of many with her warm smile, her encouragement, and her genuine interest in the well-being of others. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but the memories and the values she imparted will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Maria Stevenson is survived by her loving husband Trevor, her children Emma and James, and her extended family. As we say goodbye, we remember the joy she brought into our lives, the lessons she taught us, and the love she shared so freely.

Rest in peace, dear Maria. Your love for tennis and golf, and the warmth you shared with your family and community, will always be remembered.
